Lack of cherished “hundred parts” is not a reason to give up your favorite activities and good rest. Here are some tips on how to save space in a small area and get the most out of it.
1. Make vertical beds
This is an excellent replacement for ordinary beds, which occupy a significant part of the backyard area. The vertical structures are suitable for growing edible herbs strawberries, strawberries, cucumbers, and flowers.
The main advantage of such beds is their compactness. They are also easier to care for (no need to bend over), and the berries can be eaten straight from the bush. Structures can be created from plastic bottles and PVC pipes, edged boards, wooden pallets, and even waterproof fabric.
2. Organize a flower bed on the roof of the building
To many, this idea seems difficult to implement, but modern landscape designers have already learned how to select suitable plants and are happy to share their recommendations with summer residents. The following unpretentious herbs and flowers can be placed on the roof :
- various stonecrops (false, Spanish, white, Kamchatka);
- rejuvenated roofing;
- pinnate carnation;
- herbal clove;
- some types of geraniums.
3. Use mixed plantings
Gardeners have long noticed that certain crops planted together help each other grow: they scare away pests, create the necessary shade or increase soil fertility. You can combine not only vegetables (corn with cucumbers or beans, onions with carrots or salad, tomatoes with garlic or parsley), but also flowers with vegetables and herbs:
- marigolds and calendula are planted with potatoes, cabbage, and cucumbers;
- petunia is placed next to tomatoes;
- nasturtium – next to pumpkin seeds.
4. Engage walls and fence
If there is no place in the country for storing garden tools, set aside vertical structures: hang hooks on a wooden fence or wall of the house, nail a couple of shelves under the roof, fasten wooden boxes. Knock off a wall cabinet with a folding table from the boards – it will become a compact and practical place for storing small equipment.
5. Buy light outdoor furniture
Do you dream of a beautiful lounge area, but there is not enough space for it? Ditch massive tables, benches, and benches in favor of folding tables and chairs with graceful legs. The site will not look overloaded – on the contrary, it will give the impression that you have enough space to equip a recreation area.
6. Install a canopy instead of a pavilion
Often, additional buildings on the site take up too much space. A wooden gazebo is a capital structure that requires severe investments and “extra” meters. Instead, install a simple pergola on four pillars close to the house: if desired, it can be decorated with fabric curtains to create a private atmosphere.
7. Portable sauna and inflatable pool
What could be more pleasant than water procedures in the fresh air? Many people dream of taking a steam bath or swimming in the pool, but the owners of small areas are forced to deny themselves this pleasure. Do not be upset: the modern market offers a solution in mobile structures that can be temporarily located in the local area.
